Therapy for Your Adolescent

Do you find yourself thinking about the last argument that you had with your teenager and you can't quite understand why he/she yelled so loud or cried so hard?

Has there been a big change or transition at home or at school?

Is he/she having a hard time with friends at school or making connections with teachers and peers?

Are you worried that your teenager is too overwhelmed with school work and is having trouble feeling good about themselves?

You may feel very challenged by the chaos your teenager is causing inside you or in your home. I want to reassure you that adolescence is the prime time, developmentally speaking, for powerful shifts and changes. The feelings they elicit in you are actually letting you know that they are doing the emotional work they need to be doing. In many ways, adolescence inspires us to "bless the mess." I want to partner with you to help you and your teenager do exactly this: help to sift through the experiences they're struggling with and find comfort, security and an autonomous, safe way to assert their voice and self-hood.

Adolescent Individual Therapy

My specialty is working with children and adolescents. I incorporate a range of modalities including creative arts therapies, cognitive behavioral (CBT) and mindfulness/ grounding techniques. Individual therapy sessions are 45 minutes in length and may include a check-in or collateral session with the parent/caregiver. Collateral sessions with parents/caregivers are opportunities to provide a deep level of support for the main caregivers in the child's life, for the nurturer to receive nurture. During collateral sessions, parents can share about the challenges and joys in being with their children, receive support and explore techniques and treatment modalities they may utilize at home.

Adolescent Empowerment Support Group

Adolescents are driven to socialize and connect with their peers in powerful and autonomous ways. They seek group life that will reflect and validate their emotional life experiences. The Adolescent Empowerment Support Group is a safe and supportive therapeutic space where teens can share and explore the challenges and joys of being who they are, as they encourage each other in the process. I incorporate art therapy techniques and offer valuable modeling of communication for teens who may have a hard time making connections or relating to other kids.

Authentic
Movement

Authentic Movement is a movement therapy and mindfulness modality that enhances self-awareness, providing a non-judgemental space where participants are guided by their internal focus and inner impulses. There are both "movers" and "witnesses." Movers explore spontaneous gestures, movement and stillness, while witnesses track their inner responses. Authentic Movement is both a meditative and therapeutic practice, integrating the mind and body, increasing access to unconscious thoughts, actions, building a bridge towards consciousness, creativity and connection. This therapeutic modality can support adolescents in connecting with their impulses, enhancing self-regulation, self-esteem and group identification.
